  SATTVA-RAJAS-TAMAS "THE THREE GUNAS" The Bhagavad Gita, a sacred text in Hinduism, explains the concept of Gunas in detail. In chapter 14, verse 5, Lord Krishna explains: सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणाः प्रकृति-सम्भवाः। निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम्॥ " सत्त्व ,  रज और तम - ये तीन गुण प्रकृति से उत्पन्न होते हैं और इन गुणों से हमारी अविनाशी आत्मा को शरीर से बाँधा जाता है। हे महाबाहो! ये गुण हर देही में निहित होते हैं और उनके द्वारा हमारे कर्म व्यवहारों को बाँध दिया जाता है।" . ........ "Sattvam rajas tama iti gunah prakriti-sambhavah Nibadhnanti mahabaho dehe dehinam avyayam" The Bhagavad Gita also explains that while the Gunas ( Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas) are present in every person, they are not fixed or permanent.
