May have read many number of books, even if you don't remember the story, the essence will always be with you.

I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.  -Jorge Luis Borges

I enjoy reading, therefore occasionally I need a decent book to read. It's like I'm swimming in a sea of knowledge rather than a room full of books. But what do they actually teach us? Only those who enjoy reading will know the answer to this question. A great book is not only a nice companion, but it also significantly impacts your life. Let me tell you about a great story I recall.

There once was an outstanding Guru.  He had lots of pupils.  I've read many books, but I've forgotten most of them, a pupil once asked him. What does reading this have to do with anything?

The Guru did not respond; he merely grinned. The Guru gave the student a filthy filter a few days later and instructed him to fill it with water.  The student was initially shocked, but after a while the flood stopped and everything was gone, he walked to the river to get water without the Guru's permission. The student returned and sadly informed the Guru that despite his best efforts, he was unable to gather water.  I stumbled.

You have not failed, the Guru stated while grinning once again.

When I looked at the filter, it was completely fresh.  You were attempting to obtain water when everything happened.

The last time I was asked, "What does reading accomplish?"  Let's clarify by using a filter as an example.

So, even if you can't recall every detail.  But reading will undoubtedly make you feel better.  The mind is usually significantly impacted by reading.  Your subconscious will store that information and let it surface when necessary.

It is said -

never reads lives only one." - George R.R. Martin
